서양화가 최장칠
최장칠 작가는 흔히 볼 수 없는 독특한 스크래치 기법을 활용하여 작업 속에서 우연적·자연적으로 흘러나오는 순수한 이미지에 감성적으로 다가서면서, 자신만의 시각으로 자연에서 추출된 미적 본질을 표출시키는 데 관심을 가져왔다. 작품을 통해 드러나는 이 새로운 세계, 또 하나의 현실은 우연히 발생하는 색층으로 이루어진 조형적 요소들과 그 자체 안에서 관계를 맺고 의미를 지니는 또 하나의 미적 세계이다. 이 미적 세계에서는 찬연함, 아름다움, 감동, 숭고함, 담아, 질박함, 생성과 소멸, 환원, 확산, 융화, 빛의 굴절 등 다양한 요소와 원인자들이 존재하면서 서로 관계를 맺고 하모니를 이룬다고 생각한다. 그는 이러한 현상과 현실을 단순히 재현하는 데에 그치지 않고 자기 내면에서 표출된 초감각적인 감성과 결부시키면서, 다양한 색층으로 이루어진 색상 속에 내재한 가장 본질적인 미적 요소들을 끌어내어 자신만의 시각과 관점으로 흡수·소화하여 무엇인가를 새롭게 표현하고자 하였다.
Jangchil Choi uses a rare unique scratch technique to emotionally approach the pure images accidentally and spontaneously flowing out of his creative work, and pays attention to surfacing the aesthetic essence extracted from the nature from his own perspective.
The new world or another reality surfaced in his art works is another meaningful world of aesthetics that builds some relationship with formative elements composed of accidentally emerging multiple layers of colors. In this world of aesthetics, a wide range of elements and factors such as resplendence, beauty, impressiveness, sublimity, refinement, simplicity, generation and extinction, reduction, diffusion, harmony and refraction of light
exist, build relationships and create harmony.
Choi not only represents such phenomena and reality but also connects them with extra-
sensory emotions surfacing in his inner world, to draw out the most essential aesthetic
elements inherent in multiple layers of colors, as well as absorb and digest them from his own perspective and viewpoint, ultimately to express something anew.
